Snow Angels seeks volunteers as more snow threatens Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — With another snowy blast in the forecast, Volunteer Kamloops is seeking more volunteers for its Snow Angels program.
The Snow Angels is a temporary program where a volunteer will be assigned a senior or a person with a disability, preferably in their own neighbourhood, to shovel their driveways and sidewalks. And with the snowier than normal winter Kamloopsians have experienced, they’ve got some volunteers that are assisting multiple individuals with shoveling the snow.
“We have more than 300 people needing help and just under 100 of them are teamed up with a volunteer,” says spokesperson Debbie Smith. “In the meantime, some are getting by and paying if they can. So, it’s been a bit of a rough year. Next year, we’ll be much more prepared and start organizing in August. We only got the (Snow Angels) contract in November.”
Smith says the service is for seniors who can’t afford to pay for shoveling services and notes she’s very concerned with more snow in the forecast.
