North Shore gas leak creates traffic issues

KAMLOOPS — Update: Fortis BC’s Corporate Communications Manager Sean Beardow says the gas leak has been brought under control and attributes the 5 a.m. gas line break to “third party damage.”

He has no other information regarding the cause but says repairs should be completed within two hours.

Earlier: Kamloops Fire and Fortis Gas are dealing with a gas leak just behind the Powder Keg in an alley on the North Shore. 

Initial reports indicate the leak was caused when snow clearing crews hit the line. 

The incident happened just before 5:00 AM this (Tuesday) morning.

Traffic has been shut down in the alley and has now been extended to include much of Tranquille Road itself from Vernon Avenue towards the Overlanders Bridge. So avoid that area until the all clear is given. 

It’s not clear if the snow removal crews were City crews or private contractors.
