Charges laid in Williams Lake arson and B & E case that threatened elderly woman
KAMLOOPS — Crown Counsel has approved charges against two Williams Lake youths in connection with an arson and break and enter during last summer’s wildfires.
The incidents occurred August 15 and the youths, who will not be named due to their ages, both face charges of break and enter, mischief under $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000 and arson.
“There is no doubt that the elderly woman in the residence may have been seriously injured or killed if the neighbours did not see the fire and immediately tend to it with their firefighting skills during the state of emergency,” said Williams Lake RCMP Inspector Jeff Pelley. “We are very fortunate for their response along with the response of the Williams Lake Fire Department.”
Police say this case is a reminder to always report suspicious behaviour to police.
