Kamloops MP details federal tax changes

KAMLOOPS — Filing your taxes is about to become a little easier for some Canadians this year.

That from Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Conservative MP Cathy McLeod who says those who stand to benefit most from the changes will be those with low or fixed incomes.

“I’m glad to see that the Liberal government is continuting some of the work that we started in terms of a more tax-friendly system,” she tells CFJC Today.

McLeod says the changes include:

• The launch of the “File my Return” automated telephone filing service which will allow those with low or fixed incomes to file by giving their personal information over the phone. Canadians eligible for this service will receive an invitation by mail next month. The service will open for use February 26.
• Canadians who used paper forms last year will now receive the tax-filing package by mail instead of having to pick it up at Canada Post and Service Canada.

The deadline to file your 2017 taxes is April 30, 2018.
