Kamloops residents asked to manage their Christmas waste

KAMLOOPS — Now that Christmas has come and gone, many Kamloops families are left with a big whole bunch of garbage and maybe even a Christmas tree that needs to be taken care of.
City of Kamloops Streets and Environmental Services Manager Glen Farrow says with the two statutory holidays, the schedule for garbage and recycling pick-up has shifted. He also says it’s important for the public to try and manage the waste materials they’ve accumulated over the holidays, in order to help ease the strain on the city’s resources.
“The first step is properly managing your own waste,” Farrow explained. “If you’re able to manage any product that’s beyond what you’re able to fit in your carts, that would be great. There are depots around town… that can handle the cardboard from your new TV, as well as the styrofoam that comes in that.”
For the who don’t want to hold onto the Christmas spirit, the city is also accepting natural Christmas trees for recycling. Farrow says recycling the trees is an important way to keep extra material from going into the city’s landfill.
