Travel woes at Kamloops Airport result of bad weather across Southern BC

Dec 19, 2017 | 3:33 PM

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE — Wednesday morning has so far been better at Fulton Field. The 6:00 AM Air Canada flight to Calgary was delayed for an hour, and some other flights have seen minor delays. But as of 6:45 AM, there had been no cancellations.

YESTERDAY —This blast of winter weather has been wreaking havoc on local highways and for air travellers across much of southern British Columbia today.

Many people trying to fly out of Fulton Field were left stranded for some time Tuesday, as flights were delayed and even cancelled. Manager of Airport Operations Jeff Scherban says the problems originated in Vancouver, as they were dealing with some difficult weather conditions there, and causing the delays and cancellations in other centres.

“Weather moving across the region, right from the Kootenays to the Lower Mainland is having an impact,” Scherban told CFJC Today. “[There have been] multiple flights cancelled already, and I’d definitely encourage travellers to check-in with their air carriers before coming out for their flights.”

Scherban says he understands it can be frustrating when weather events cause interruptions in service but also wants to remind those travelling to take some steps to help ensure they get where they’re going with as little hassle as possible.

“In these types of conditions, the best thing to do is pack a little bit of extra time and pack some patience… The airlines are working with passengers as they’re delayed, so make sure you contact your air carriers ahead of time.”
