Butler family makes big donation to RIH

KAMLOOPS — A longtime Kamloops family has embraced the spirit of giving by making a generous donation to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation.

June and Joe Butler, best known as the owners of Butler Auto and RV on the Kamloops North Shore, have given $200,000, earmarked for the hospital’s cardiology department.

June Butler says the cardiology department has helped her family, and they felt it was a good time to give back.

“When they say, ‘it’s better to give than to receive,’ it is so true, because it makes us feel so good that it’s going to help so many people,” said Butler.

“I saw other people give, and that inspired me to give. I think the more people who give, the better it is.”

RIH Foundation Chair Eric Davis says the donation will help ensure local cardiac patients have timely access to critical care.

“This caught us by surprise because Kamloops has been trying to jump-start the cardiology program. We had three cardiologists; we now have seven,” said Davis. “For the family to inject $200,000, it’s just going to give us the building blocks we need to, as one of the other specialists said, put Kamloops on the map.”
