Kamloops RCMP put holiday twist on bait car program

KAMLOOPS — RCMP will periodically place bait cars in locations around Kamloops to catch would-be thieves in action, and they’re doing it again over the holidays.

The vehicles will be strategically located at shopping centres, and other busy areas.

Each car is equipped with audio and video monitoring equipment for the police to quickly identify and apprehend anyone breaking in.

While bait cars are used by police year-round, over the holidays the vehicles will have Christmas parcels and packages inside.

“We’re hoping to prevent theft of vehicle, and theft from vehicles, so we’re giving a heads-up to the thieves,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “We’re looking for you, so don’t plan to do it. Also, we just want to send that reminder out there to people in general, to citizens in general, that you can help prevent it yourself.”
