McArthur Island Golf Course getting Kamloops residents attention

“The turnout’s been fantastic,” City of Kamloops Parks Planning Supervisor Michael Doll said, at today’s open house event. “The great thing is people are very passionate about McArthur Island.”

Two of the most vocal groups have been the Kamloops Disc Golf Club and the Kamloops Naturalist Club. Both clubs were well represented at the open house, engaging with other members of the public as well as club members, discussing the options available for the seven-hectare space.

“You know, a central location like that, of course, it’s going to be sought after,” Jesse Ritcey, Kamloops Naturalist Club spokesperson said.

“Having a place like this available is a pretty unique opportunity,” Ben Laidlaw of the Disc Golf Club explained.

Doll says he’s pleased with the public’s interest in the space and hopes to get more opportunity to engage with as many people as possible as the project progresses.

“On December 6th, we’re having another open house at the McArthur Island Sports and Events Centre,” Doll explained. “[The project information] boards will be on display at the Tournament Capital Centre in the meantime… and the survey is available online, as well.”
