Semi fire forces Coquihalla closure
KAMLOOPS — Update: DriveBC says the northbound lanes of the highway are now open. No word yet on when the southbound lanes will reopen.
Update: It looks like it may be a while before the Coquihalla Highway reopens following this morning’s semi fire two kilometres west of the Carolin Mines exit.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure tells CFJC Today the closure was caused by a semi fire at around 9 a.m. It says it caused a “hazardous spill” prompting the need for first responders and environmental experts to attend the scene.
“At this time, there is no estimated time for reopening and traffic is being detoured at Merritt and Sowaqua Creek exit,” says the Ministry. “Highway 1 or Highway 3 can be used as an alternative route.”
