KAMLOOPS —Nine dollars.
That’s how much more homeowners may have to pay for utilities next year.
The finance department is scheduled to present its provisional utility funds for 2018 at Tuesday’s council meeting.
Recommendations include a 15 per cent ($47 per household) increase in sewer rates.
The report says the additional funds will help build up the sewer reserve fund to pay for the replacement of the sewer main along sections of Tranquille Road that’s expected to begin in 2020.
As for cost savings, the finance department is recommending a 76 per cent ($38 per household) decrease in recycling rates as part of its changeover to Recycle BC.
Garbage and water rates are expected to stay the same saying a reduction in water useage has led to many system upgrades being postponed or cancelled.
Utility rates are expected to be set by December 31.
If approved homeowners bills will increase by 1.1 per cent from $885 to $894.
