Iconic Christmas house readies for holiday season

KAMLOOPS — The city’s most well-known Christmas house is set to be aglow once again, with decorating well underway at Sixth and Pine.

Louise Edwards says planning for this year’s display began back in January, with decorating beginning back in the summer.

Every year the long time Kamloops resident adorns her home and front lawn with thousands of festive lights and Christmas decorations for the community to enjoy.

With this nearing her 40th year lighting up the neighbourhood, Edwards says she feels a sense of pride in keeping the traditional display going despite the hefty hydro bill.

“I like the creative part of the lighting and iI what it does for the community,” said Edwards. “No matter where I go it’s ‘oh you’re the Christmas lady, or I know that house’. It means a lot to people. Once you establish that, you can’t stop really.”

With Edwards husband unable to help, she says the project wouldn’t be possible without the help of neighbours Maryann and Bernie.

This is the sisters third year helping her put up the display.

“We grew up just down the street on Dominion, so we’ve been looking at this house for a long, long time and it’s time to give back to her,” said Bernie Crawford.

“I’ve come up here and looked at it all these years and wandered through,” said Maryann Dauch. “Now I’m the one 
 helping out and watching the reponse from the kids as they’re going past the street so it’s great.”

While there’ still plenty of work to do, the display is being turned on every night to get people into the festive Christmas spirit.

On site donations are welcome.
