Suspect in Dallas break-ins facing multiple charges, including attempted murder

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: The Kamloops man suspected of being responsible for the two break and enters in Dallas Monday is facing now facing multiple charges following a court appearance this afternoon.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says John Andrew Carlton Stark is facing charges of: attempted murder; two counts of aggravated assault; two counts of break & enter; and three firearm related charges.

EARLIER: The suspect in a pair of break and enters in Dallas late Monday afternoon will be in court today.

The 31 year old cannot be named until those charges are laid, though Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie hopes that will happen today.

Shelkie did release more details on the alleged incident, which she says started when a homeowner was returning home from work and found an unknown male in his residence.

“During the course of a struggle with the suspect, the citizen received serious injuries including lacerations to his head. The suspect then ran from his residence and broke into another nearby house,” Shelkie says. “The homeowner was in the residence and again, there was physical confrontation with the suspect. This homeowner received stab wounds.”

Following the second break-in she says an off-duty Kamloops police officer noticed the suspect, chased him to a third home where he climbed into a vehicle. Shelkie says the officer kept the suspect contained in the vehicle until RCMP officers arrived on scene where he was then arrested.

“The citizen who received stab wounds was released from Royal Inland Hospital last night,” she says. “The citizen with lacerations to head and other injuries is still in medical care.”
