Interim BC Conservative leader coming to Kamloops as party attempts resurrection

KAMLOOPS — Members of the BC Conservative Party are reorganzing in the Kamloops area.

Part of that work will start this weekend when members, including Interim Leader Scott Anderson, meet this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Accent Inn in preparation to reorganize riding associations in the area.

“The party has been kind of laying low the past couple of years and there’s some exciting things going on starting with having an interim leader in place,” says Alan Forseth, the party’s regional director for Kamloops-Thompson. “I was at the AGM in Langley earlier last month. We’re looking forward to having Scott here in Kamloops to let party members know what’s happening.”

He says the Kamloops and Fraser-Nicola ridings have been inactive for a couple of years and says the goal is to get them back up and running along with electing a permanent leader in “the near future.”

Despite the fact the party ran just 10 candidates during last May’s provincial election, none in Kamloops, Forseth says the goal is to nominate more candidates throughout the province in time for the next election.

“I totally believe that we will have Conservative candidates running in both Kamloops-North Thompson and Kamloops-South Thompson and the Fraser-Nicola riding because people want to have that choice and option and I’m going to do my darndest to make sure that happens.”

Though he estimates membership in the party is low locally, he says at one time there were roughly 500 between the two Kamloops ridings.
