SAR crews rescue driver from crash near McLure

BARRIERE, B.C. — Barriere Search and Rescue volunteers were needed to extract a patient from a crash near the community last night.

The crash took place near McClure, and Acting Barriere SAR President Todd English says it involved a logging truck and a sport-utility vehicle.

“I was actually in the lineup when the accident happened. Our crew was paged out for the accident. Basically, the driver of an SUV had rear-ended a logging truck,” said English.

SAR volunteers extracted the SUV’s driver, and details of his injuries aren’t known.

English says traffic on Highway 5 was tied up for an extended period, but drivers acted admirably.

“The traffic was really badly tied up in both directions but actually, everybody behaved really well when we were on our way there. Normally we have a few people get in our way, but this time, everybody got out of our way as quickly as possible. It was really, really well done.”
