City of Kamloops: Roads ‘decent’ for this time of year

KAMLOOPS — “Decent.”

That’s how Glen Farrow, streets and environmental services manager with the City of Kamloops, assesses the condition of streets around town following last week’s dump of snow.

“You know it’s still winter driving conditions throughout the city as well as in the whole region,” he told CFJC Today. “The amount of snow we got in that short amount of time made for tricky driving conditions but over the past few days things have gotten better. More sand has been applied and overall the roads are decent for this time of year.”

He acknowledged streets in some areas of Kamloops have been harder hit than others though.

“The amount of snow and ice that’s accumulated in the higher elevations that’s generally a trickier area. Up north toward Westsyde things are better in that direction. But again the focus is on the main arterials, to really hit the sand hard there and ensure it’s safe for the motoring public, particularly through intersections.”

Farrow notes the city will remain a 24-hour operation, especially with snow in the forecast for later this week, possibly as early as Tuesday.

“All staff are on shift so we’re prepared and ready to go. We’re not necessarilly running every single truck now based on the need but we are prepared for whatever temperature, whatever snow may come our way.”

He says motorists can do their part to keep streets safe by watching their speed, having space between their car and the car in front of them and by ensuring they have their winter tires on.
