KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP stormed a home on Holly Avenue on the North Shore this morning, the latest step in the investigation into the shooting on nearby Nelson Avenue earlier this week.
Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay says Serious Crime Unit members are looking for more evidence.
“This morning we cordoned off a section of this street at about 7:00 a.m. and our tactical team safely evacuated everybody out of the suite in question, and we also evacuated the neighbouring suites just in case something were to go wrong,” said Pillay.
“As planned in this case, everything went peacefully and we are continuing this investigation by searching this property now.”
It was a high visibility operation, and Pillay says members took every precaution necessary.
“Given the particular circumstances of the investigation and our risk assessment, we determined that we would be required to use our tactical team to ensure everybody’s safety,” said Pillay.
“It’s difficult to predict how long it takes to process a scene, but I would expect we will be working here until sometime this afternoon.”
Two people were injured in Monday’s shooting at 217 Nelson Avenue.
Pillay says the investigation has found a connection with the home on Holly Avenue.
“We’re searching this residence for evidence of that crime. It’s not necessarily that it’s the same people involved, but we do have grounds to believe that there is evidence here. Nobody from here has been arrested and there are no immediately imminent arrests planned. The whole matter is still being investigated.”
