KAMLOOPS — BC Transit service is about to expand in the Kamloops area.

Service is slated to start next September and serve the Tk’emlups Indian Band and Sun Rivers.

BC Transit’s Communications Manager Jonathon Dyck says public consultations regarding routes and scheduling will begin in December.

“We want to get that feedback from the public and make the plans of what it will look like for that transit service,” he told CFJC Today. “The information will be available online and we’ll make sure to promote those sessions as they come up.”

Dyck says plans for the service have been in the works “for some time.”

“In the City of Kamloops we have our agreement with the city to provide transit service and so what’s happening is the First Nations has come up with their share of the funding, made an agreement with the City of Kamloops and so we can go forward.”

“It’s going to be the same buses, service is going to look the same there as it does everwhere else. It’s just a matter of working out the cost sharing,” adds Deven Matkowski, engineering manager with the City of Kamloops.
