KAMLOOPS — A Valleyview playground is getting a much needed face-lift this week.

Marion Schilling Elementary was voted in as one of four winners of the BCAA Play Here contest in June.

The prize was a $100,000 grant for a new play space.

School District 73 maintenance crews have removed all of the old wooden play structures to make way for a brand new playground.

“We’re going to have BCAA arriving tomorrow, and they’re bringing about 25-40 people,” principal Gordon Cumming said. “We are going to have them have lunch in our school. They’re going to be working out on the playground, we’re going to provide them with some music to keep them entertained, and they will be here working until it’s done, which will probably be late Saturday.”

The school will be holding an official opening for the playground on Oct. 10, when students will be given a lesson on playing respectfully with one another.

Once complete, the park is expected to be a space that everyone in the community can enjoy.

“No more splinters or bolts falling out, it will be all state-of-the-art new stuff with a variety of climbing, swinging sliding, just engaging physical activity for our kids here at Marion Schilling,” Cumming said.
