Kamloops Airport interested in new ultra-low-cost airline?
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Could a new ultra-low-cost airline take off in Kamloops?
On Wednesday WestJet unveiled Swoop, a low-cost carrier that will begin selling flights for the Canadian market next year. The airline says Swoop will offer more seats, less legroom, and extra costs for the low fare option.
CFJC Today asked Healther McCarley, managing director of Kamloops Airport, if this would be an airline that could hit the Kamloops skies in the near future.
“This is exciting news from WestJet and we certainly wish them well with the launch of Swoop,” she said. “I understand they’ll have their first flights operating next summer so we’ll see how that goes for them. And you know we’re always looking for opportunities to welcome new air services and to connect to other cities via Kamloops Airport.”
