Kamloops MP McLeod set to press feds on pot, tax changes
KAMLOOPS — Now that parliament is back from its summer break, Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Conservative MP Cathy McLeod will be keeping a close eye on the federal government’s plan to legalize marijuana next spring.
She says her biggest concern will be making sure they get the legislation “right.”
“I’m concerned they’re moving ahead too quickly. The chiefs of police say they don’t have enough time to deal with issues such as impaired driving and making sure proper testing is in place and making sure their officers are properly trained.”
McLeod adds another priority will be pressuring the government to drop its proposed changes to the tax system she feels are unfair to small businesses.
