More Elephant Hill wildfire evacuees headed home
KAMLOOPS — Favourable weather conditions have allowed the Thompson-Nicola Regional District to rescind more evacuation orders related to the Elephant Hill wildfire.
Effective immediately, property owners west of Eagan Lake and in the Sharpe Lake and Deadman-Vidette areas can return home and at 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon residents in the South Green Lake area can follow suit.
Debbie Sell, information officer with the TNRD Emergency Operations Centre, said both areas are heavily populated and noted the lifting of the order is a long time coming.
“Some of them (evacuation orders) came on at different times but they’ve (residents) been out, for some of them, close to six weeks. So, it’s been quite a while and we’re really pleased that they’re able to get back now that it’s safe to do so.”
