“Build Week” begins for Kamloops Habitat for Humanity families

KAMLOOPS — Back in February, two lucky families were given the opportunity of lifetime, when Habitat for Humanity chose them as recipients of their newest Kamloops homes.

This week is Build Week for the folks at Habitat for Humanity, as efforts ramp up on fundraising, and construction at those properties. Today, volunteers from RBC Dominion Securities were on hand at the ReStore, helping staff with the renovation that space. Debora Delyzer, General Manager of ReStore, says no matter where the volunteers are helping out, the effort is helping get those homes built.

“We’re going through major renovations at ReStore,” Delyzer explained. “Part of that is to increase our sellable space, because our donations have skyrocketed thanks to the community of Kamloops. All of the money we raise, the net revenue, is going to go directly towards our build.”

Rhys Vollrath and a team of volunteers from RBC Dominion Securities were installing new shelving units in the ReStore, which will help increase the retail space Habitat has available. He says his organization chose Habitat because of the opportunity it presents for those receiving the homes.

“There’s lots of good organizations out in the community,” Vollrath told CFJC Today. “Habitat for Humanity, building a home for a family in need kind of just hits a heartstring for everyone.”

Companies donate money to Habitat to be able to volunteer as part of Build Week. In this case, RBC Dominion Securities contributed $7500.
