KAMLOOPS — One man taken to hospital after being hit by a pickup truck last night on the North Shore.

Staff Sergeant Ed Preto of the RCMP says the pickup was turning left, from 12th onto Tranquille about 10:15 last night, when the driver struck a 37-year old man who was crossing northbound at the crosswalk.

The victim was tossed several metres by the impact. He suffered cuts and bruises, but was transported to RIH with non life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian was wearing dark coloured clothing, and Preto said he had ear buds in his ears.

The 27 year old Kamloops driver stayed at the scene.

Apparently the driver had been drinking, and was taken to police headquarters for breathalyzer tests.

Police are recommending charges of driving with a blood alcohol level about .08.
