KAMLOOPS — Former Liberal MLA and cabinet minister Kevin Krueger is calling on Teck Resources to apologize to Highland Valley Copper employees.

Earlier this month Highland Valley workers voted 99.8%  to strike if necessary to back contract demands.

Teck Resources is asking for rollbacks in employee contracts including stripping copper bonuses.

Krueger calls the demand greed at its finest.

“By this months quarterly report they’ll have made more than $2 billion,” said Krueger. “They should apologize for asking for a rollback in concessions because really, everybody knows the gap keeps getting wider. There are too few rich people and way too many people struggling. The pendulum has swung way too far in favour of corporations.”

A 2016 Teck Resources report shows the company made $9.3 billion in 2016, an increase from $8.3 billion in 2015.

The company operates 12  mines throughout North and South America, including Highland Valley Copper near Logan Lake.
