Woman from North Carolina says she was duped into video confession

SASKATOON — A woman from North Carolina has come forward as the person who recorded a video where she unwittingly confessed to sending packages of white powder around Saskatoon.

Samantha Field tells CTV News she created a video in March for a customer on Fiverr, a website for freelancers to sell different creative services, such as video production.

Field says the customer requested she read an excerpt from the customer’s new book.

The excerpt detailed how Field’s character and an accomplice orchestrated the delivery of suspicious packages in Saskatoon.

The customer said the video would be played at a book launch, but it was instead sent to local media, along with emails proclaiming the innocence of Alexa Emerson, the woman already charged in the suspicious package deliveries.

Crime Stoppers launched a search for the women in the video this week, but police had said they did not believe she had done anything wrong.

Emerson — also known as Amanda Totchek — was arrested last spring and faces 83 charges related to packages and email bomb threats sent to several businesses, schools and the Saskatoon Cancer Centre.

The charges against Emerson are connected to five suspicious package deliveries in late November, several deliveries in March and April and more than half a dozen bomb threats over the last few months.

It was determined the powder in all the deliveries was not dangerous. (CTV Saskatoon)
