Recent rainfall welcome sight for wildfire crews

KAMLOOPS — We’ve yet to hear the impact overnight rains have had on the BC wildfire situation.

Environment Canada forecasters said the rain would be fairly widespread, but quantities would not be enough to represent a turning point in the fire season.

In the Cariboo, there is good news on the Gustafsen wildfire burning near 100 Mile House, where firefighters have managed to increase the containment estimate to 45 per cent.

Further north in Williams Lake, Mayor Walt Cobb left a message for residents on Facebook last night.

He says firefighters have managed to build a large protective front, and conducted a successful burnoff yesterday.

Cobb says that has officials thinking about how soon an evacuation order can be lifted.
