KAMLOOPS —Both the North and South Thompson river levels are expected to begin dropping this week.
City of Kamloops Utility Services Manager Greg Wightman says crews have been monitoring the water levels for the past three weeks.
Wightman says the South Thompson has increased an average six to ten centimetres the last few day, flooding parts of Riverside Park and surrounding areas.
However relief is coming, “We’re actually at a point where the North Thompson has peaked and its actually starting to recede slowly,” said Whightman. “With the North dropping, the south levels down by Overlanders Bridge are actually going to stay steady and then start dropping through the early part of this week.”
Wightman says city crews continue to seal off catch basis and monitor pump stations as a precaution, and all boat launches remain closed.
Bruker Marina on Kamloops Lake has also been impacted by high water.
The River Forecast Centre says a flood watch remains in effect for North and South Thompson River.
