KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Further improvements could be coming to the Tournament Capital Centre.

Earlier this year the TCC announced it plans to replace the centre’s ten-year-old indoor track with a new one.

The total cost of the project is $1.5 million with almost half covered by the federal government’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

In a report scheduled to be presented to City Council Tuesday, the TCC is requesting to replace the center’s plastic volleyball and basketball courts with hardwood at the same time as the indoor track project.

Doing so would cost an extra $330,000.

The TCC say doing both projects at the same time limits the chance of the track being damaged if the hardwood remodel were to be pushed to a later date.

It will also allow the TCC to hold larger sporting events since sanctioned basketball events aren’t allowed to be played on the center’s current plastic flooring.

The TCC says the extra renovation cost would be funded from the City’s Community Works Fund.
