KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says sloughing on a slope near Rayleigh has slowed significantly over the last two days, but residents remain out of their home.
The city is bracing for rain that is forecast for the Thompson region on Thursday and Friday, hoping the piping is enough to stop any further movement.
“We’ve seen some very positive impacts that are now in place because of the diversionary piping,” said Emergency Operations Centre information officer Tammy Robertson. “The weather has been really co-operating, and we’re definitely seeing a dry trend on the slope.”
With the rain event coming, the nine homes are still evacuated and will be for the short term until further notice. Meantime, emergency operations centre staff are on-call in case the slopes breaks.
“The emergency program co-ordinator, Dan Sutherland, has activated and called for the EOC team to be at the centre tomorrow at 9 a.m. to be proactively planning for what might occur if we see some heavy rain,” noted Robertson. “We’ve all been asked to plan for 24/7 coverage throughout the weekend and have extra staffing in place in case they’re needed.”
