KAMLOOPS — Kamloops streets are about to get vintage.

The 47th annual Kamloops Easter Parade takes place this Easter Sunday.

Every year, hundreds of vintage cars aged 25 years or older weave through the city as part of the traditional event.

Chairman Dick Parkes says there’s a reason it’s held every Easter.

“There used to be a song called the ‘Easter Parade’ way back in the 1930s and that’s where this event comes from,” said Parkes. “It’s an old standing thing that people used to go out and drive their old jalopies in the Easter Parade and dress up in Easter bonnets.”

With sun in the forecast, Parkes expects more than 120 Vintage Car Club members and recreational drivers from throughout the Interior will take part in the convoy, with vehicles ranging from 1920s all the way up to 1992.

“The vehicles range from survivor cars that are basically original to restored cars,” added Parkes. “You never know what you’re going to see.”

The 1 p.m. parade starts at Dunes Golf Course before going down Westsyde Road, Tranquille Road, throughout downtown, then ending at Riverside Park.

City streets will remain open throughout the event.

A social gathering is scheduled to take place at Riverside Park after the parade, with a pancake breakfast also being held before the event from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. at Dunes Golf Course.
