Kamloops Mounties say distracted driving getting worse, not better

KAMLOOPS — The fines are harsher and there’s more police presence, but drivers around BC including in Kamloops still aren’t leaving their phones alone.

Central Interior Traffic Services pulled over dozens of vehicles today during a distracted driving blitz on Columbia Street West.

Sergeant Mike Pears says by picking up your phone while driving  you could impact someone else’s life, and your own forever.

“People that have had that happen to them, really struggle with living after that because it’s something they have to live with the rest of their life,” said Pears.

The penalty for distracted driving is $543 plus four demerit points for a first offense.
