Frank D’Amore to be inducted into the KSHF
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame is proud to announce the election of Frank D’Amore in its the class of 2017.
The Kamloops born and raised, the 53 year old businessman and entrepreneur has spent a lifetime of immersing himself in the Tournament Capital of Canada’s sports scene as an athlete at John Todd Elementary, and later at McArthur Park Jr. Secondary and Norkam Sr. Secondary specializing in track and field events. He was never a phenom but always a fiend in community sports such as broomball, recreational hockey, ball hockey, basketball, volleyball and slo-pitch.
The creation of the KSHF serves as his greatest & lasting achievement. D’Amore`s undying passion for the project, his ties to both the business and sports communities brought it all together, but he says it came about with a lot of help from his friends.
It all began when he and friends organized Roger Leroux memorial dances from 1985-1990 which began the funding process for the hall. The events grew from gatherings of 100+ to present day banquets of 400+. 90 foot showcases grew by another 120 feet in its original location at the Riverside Coliseum before it was revamped and relocated to the Tournament Capital Centre. An estimated $400,000 raised through banquet ticket sales, 50-50 sales, auctions and sponsorships went into its construction.
