Police searching for Riverside Park creep

KAMLOOPS — RCMP are looking for clues into a man who is alleged to have been recording video of a child in a public bathroom.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the incident happened at a public washroom in Riverside Park last Friday (February 24).

The unaccompanied child went into a bathroom stall, the boy saw someone reach under the stall holding a cell phone that appeared to be recording.

When the boy inquired what the man was doing, he said “nothing” and departed.

Shelkie says there’s nothing that makes her doubt the boy’s story.

“I can’t think of a situation where somebody would be reaching a cell phone under a bathroom stall for anything other than to be recording something, so yes, it seems that it’s viable that it happened,” said Shelkie.

The boy described the suspect as in his 30s with a slim build and wavy, blonde hair.

At the time, he was wearing tan-coloured pants and two-tone brown boots with stretch laces.

He was driving a faded red older model van.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

“If anybody witnesses anything like this, or has this happen to them to contact the Kamloops RCMP. We are always taking this information, when we get enough information, enough people calling in we can usually determine who that person was.”

Shelkie also advises parents to accompany young children into public bathrooms, and if your child is of a different gender, to use a family bathroom.
