The Kamloops Vibe took on winter with a shorthanded trek to the coast this weekend for their final regular season road trip.
The Vibe started the weekend with a 1-1 draw against the Island Surge. After a scoreless first period the Surge took the lead late in the second, ending Ashley Fisher’s 10 game shutout streak. The Island team held the lead until five minutes into the third when Alana Parker tied the game with an assist to Melissa Brunn. Kamloops out-shot the Surge by a 41-15 margin.
Saturday afternoon Kamloops was back on the ice, taking on the Fraser Valley Jets. The Jets got on the board first less than two minutes in but Brunn tied the game with 15 seconds remaining in the period, Brunn was assisted by Bianca Olson. The game remained tied until Cat Young scored the game winner mid way through the third, assist to Parker. Courtney Morice added an unassisted insurance goal for a 3-1 final. Once again the Vibe out-shot the opponent by a 36-18 margin.
The third game of the weekend was against the TWU Titans Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first period the Titans took the lead 32 seconds into the second and added another early in the third for a two goal lead. Emily Edmundson put the Vibe within one midway through the last period, assisted by Melissa Brunn and Sylvia Traversa. While out-shooting the TWU team by a wide margin the three games with a short bench took it’s toll and the Vibe ran out of gas and were unable to tie the game.
