KAMLOOPS — Parents will be meeting with Ministry of Education Staff in Kamloops tonight to discuss the future of student progress reporting.
A new curriculum for B.C. students was announced last May.
As part of its implementation the Ministry is holding open-house parent engagement sessions in cities across the province.
Parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 9, have the chance to express how they would like to see their child’s progress reported.
The information gathered at these events will be used to develop a new reporting approach.
“We are now teaching more directly the key competancies of critical thinking and creativity which are part of the 21st century skills set,” School District 73 Superintendent Alison Sidow said. “So, how will we report that to parents? That’s part of what we need to discuss tonight and the ministry will take all the feedback and will make some determinations and provide some policy directions for districts around how reporting will take place.”
Parents can drop into the open-house at the Henry Grube Education Centre from 5-7 tonight ahead of a brainstorming workshop scheduled from 7-8 p.m.
