Police warn about new identity theft devices

VANCOUVER — Crooks have come up with a new way to try and steal your PIN and other info from point of sale terminals.

They’re called ‘shimmers’ and are about the size of a small computer chip.

They are inserted into a terminal on the back of something like a debit card and stay there collecting PINs when the special card is pulled out.

RCMP are warning retailers that if cards start sticking in the hand-held terminal, they should stop using it and get it checked out.
