Kamloops team wins KIBIHT in classic final

KAM LOOPS — It was a classic final in the Kamloops International Bantam Hockey Tournament, which saw a Kamloops team win the tier one championship for only the third time in the tournaments 49 year history.

First year bantam Logan Stankoven’s breakaway goal in the second overtime gave the bantam Blazers a 6-5 win over Sherwood Park, Alberta.

It was Stankoven’s 4th goal of the game.

He also assisted on the other two Kamloops goals.

The Blazers had leads of 4-1 and 5-2 before Sherwood Park scored three goals in the final 12 minutes and 11 seconds of the third to force overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime Sherwood Park had a five minute power play early in the second OT.

The Blazers were able to kill than, and then Stankoven was sprung on a full strength breakaway for the game winner.

Previous Kamloops teams to win KIBIHT were in 1994 and 2011.
