KAMLOOPS — Despite a slow start to the Celebrate-A-Life Campaign, the Kamloops Hospice Association has reached a major fundraising goal.
The campaign gives people an opportunity to place the name of a loved one on a Christmas tree located at Northills Mall for a donation.
Between the memory cards and sales of craft items donated by the community, enough money has been raised to purchase medical equipment for the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home, worth about $7,000.
“We’ve managed to earn enough money to buy the bladder scanner, which will make life much easier for the patients at the house,” said Mary Rea with the Kamloops Hospice Association. “We’ve managed to have extra money that can go towards the medical expenses, which will also help out at the house.”
The Kamloops Hospice Association will remain set up at the mall until Friday, and all of the craft items have been marked down to half price in an effort to sell off as much of their stock as possible before the campaign ends.
“All the knitters in the community, all the crafters have been bringing (items),” Rea said. “Every time I come I see new stuff on the table, somebody’s dropped off something, so that’s been really fantastic. I just have a really good feeling this year, really good.”
