GATINEAU, Que. — Stephane Antiga, who recently coached Poland’s men’s national volleyball team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will take over the reins Canada’s men’s program.

Volleyball Canada announced Wednesday that the former French international will take over the post from Glenn Hoag, who will remain with the organization and work with Antiga as high performance consultant.

The 40-year-old Antiga formerly played under Hoag in France’s professional league. He was also a fixture on the French National Team from 1998 to 2010.

As a coach, he led the Poland to the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. Poland also finished fifth in Rio — the same rank as Canada.

Hoag coached Canada for 10 years, leading the men’s team to its best performance in a non-boycotted Olympics at the Rio Games. Canada’s road to a fifth-place finish included wins over silver medallist Italy and bronze medallist the United States.

“I’m very happy to start this collaboration with Canada,” Antiga said in a release. “The team has improved greatly, with very good players and the excellent work of Glenn Hoag and his staff.

“I’m very excited to start my new adventure with the Canadian team.”
