Monte Creek hoping proposed amphitheatre given green light

The amphitheatre — which would be built behind the vineyards near the back of the property — would have capacity for 1,800 people and have a south-facing bandshell, providing a view of the South Thompson River. The hope is to attract big bands.

“The amphitheatre is a way for us to have acri-tourism,” says marketing coordinator at Monte Creek Ranch Ashley Demedeiros. “We have our agricultural land that we are always valued for, so we build our infrastructure around our cattle, our wine, and our hay. But we also want to build on that by having an amphitheatre. That would allow us to host outdoor events such as concerts or weddings, or even artistic performances.”

“We hope the amphitheatre would bring more infrastructure to the Thompson valley, and it would be another venue to draw people, and bring those big-name concerts here to Kamloops.”

Some of the concerns are based on the noise that would come from the amphitheatre, but Monte Creek says consultation has been extensive.

“We’ve done our due diligence. We had consultants come from BKL in Vancouver and Lee’s Music. We put on a mock concert and the sound bites were all within acceptable limits,” says Demedeiros. “And we’re going to take things a step further and ensure we’re not going to have a negative impact on our community.”
