Residents get to talk budget with City Hall

KAMLOOPS — Residents of Kamloops get their first chance to see what might be in store in next year’s budget tonight. The Let’s Talk budget meeting runs from 7-9 PM at the Parkside Lounge in the Sandman Centre.

Mayor Peter Milobar says it’s a chance for the public to have their say on what they’d like to see in the way of new projects, or conversely, where the city can cut money to ease the tax load…

“I think it’s just a way for the public to reach out” says the Mayor. He adds “they can advocate a project they’d like to see added in, even if it’s not this year but in future years. Or things they might want to see in terms of cutting or reducing of service levels.”

Milobar says it’s also a chance for the public to see where the city stands in terms of contractual levels both this year and going forward.

Traditionally, the budget meetings haven’t been particularly well attended, and there has been a call to reduce the number of meetings to prevent city staff having to come out in force for just a handful of people.
