Lao and Roy-Petitclerc named Canadian university soccer players of the year

York University’s Jonathan Lao and Laval University’s Arielle Roy-Petitclerc were named the Canadian university players of the year in men’s and women’s soccer respectively on Wednesday

Lao, from Unionville, Ont., became the second Lions standout to merit the Joe Johnson Memorial Trophy.

Roy-Petitclerc, from St-Nicolas, Que., became the third Laval player to claim the Chantal Navert Memorial Award, joining 2007 recipient Francine Brousseau and 1996 recipient Marie Claude Dion.

Other men’s awards included Ryerson defender Robert Boskovic earning the Lou Bilek Award as rookie of the year, defenders Jonathan Doucett of Dalhousie and Sanchit Gupta of McGill were co-winners of the Student-Athlete Community Service Award and Acadia’s Findlay MacRae was voted coach of the year.
