Summit Elementary among four local entries for Aviva Fund Contest

“It’s not only for our kids here, it’s really important for them to get outside and have an opportunity to have fun and be physically active, but it also serves the neighbourhood, we have lots of daycares that come down and use it, we have sports teams that use the playground after hours, and we have a Strong Start program, so it’s for a broader neighbourhood,” says Tanya Sanders, Summit Elementary PAC Member.

The playground is 100% funded through Parent Advisory Council fundraising. Over the past few years, the PAC has raised $12,000 to date but is now reaching out to Aviva and the community, in order to purchase new equipment.

“Right now, we’re looking at $80,000 for the equipment and another at least $20,000 for the surfacing, retaining walls and installation of the playground, so upwards of $100,000 to replace the playground,” says

Among the local projects looking for funds is the Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association, for its at-risk youth program, the Kamloops Cadet Society building is also in need of repairs, and an entry from 100-Mile House is for a new water park.

Over the next 18 days, the Summit Elementary project requires lots of votes from the community, in order to get to the next round of the contest. To vote, log onto www.avivacommunityfund.org and search Summit Elementary Playground Revival.
