CALGARY — The Blazers gave up two goals on the power play in the third period to fall 2-1 in Calgary to the Hitmen on Friday night.
Quinn Benjafield opened the scoring off a faceoff in the first period. Jermaine Loewen kicked the puck to Benjafield in front of the net and he roofed a shot for a 1-0 lead.
The Blazers maintained the 1-0 lead into the third period, but the Hitmen tied it up early in the period on a power play.
Carsen Twarynski was there to tap home a rebound off a great initial pass from Jake Bean to make it 1-1.
Matteo Gennaro gave the Hitmen the lead with 5:46 to play as he finished off an odd man rush on the power play for the 2-1 lead.
The Blazers had a late push, but couldn’t score in a 2-1 loss. For the Blazers, it was their third one-goal loss this season.
The Hitmen outshot the Blazers 36-27 in the game. The Blazers were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Hitmen finished 2-for-7.
Connor Ingram was named the game’s first star despite the loss. He finished with 34 saves in goal.
The Blazers will play in Medicine Hat Saturday night to conclude their three-game trip in Alberta.
