ASK Wellness “Walk With Us” honours memories

KAMLOOPS — Today, the Aids Society of Kamloops held it’s annual Walk With Us event. The walk is an opportunity for the society to show support for those in the community living with HIV and AIDs, as well as a chance to remember those no longer with them.

Dozens of people gathered at the ASK Wellness location on Tranquille Road for the event. there was a short prayer, and welcome for those in attendance, followed by a short walk through the neighbourhood. Kira Haug, who works for the society, says it’s an event for those who access the services ask wellness offers.

“Cookie and I decided we wanted to do something a little more grassroots,” Haug explained, “Something that was close to home, and something our people were comfortable participating in.”

Cookie Reimer is a staple of the ASK Wellness community. She’s already raised over $4,000 to help with treatment costs and regularly volunteers at the society. She says her efforts are all in memory of friends she lost over the years.

“[It’s] a memory thing, for me,” Cookie told CFJC Today. “I love to do it, this year is my 25th anniversary, and I like to support this event because it brings me close to the people I’ve lost.”
