Pacific Way improvements expected to be done soon

KAMLOOPS — While 2016 was a far less disruptive year for roadwork on the streets and avenues of Kamloops, there were several projects which were undertaken by the Capital Projects department of the city. As of right now, there’s just one more awaiting completion: the rehabilitation of Pacific Way.

Capital Projects Manager, Darren Crundwell, says there were some challenges with the project, mostly related to improvements made to the water and sewer system.

“We had some challenges with the tie-ins, there [are] quite a few big complexes, strata developments connected to the water system,”  Crundwell explained. “We were shutting down a lot of people, and we had some challenges with the water system itself, but we’re through with that. We’re hoping all the tie-ins are down on Monday, and that should be the worst of it.”

Once those improvements are done, work will begin on resurfacing the roadway. If all goes according to plan, Crundwell says that the project should be done on time, and on budget, with some extra upgrades, not included in the original plans.

“We are hoping we will have all the lanes open and functioning by mid-October,” Crundwell told CFJC Today. “We’ve added a bit of extra work… We’ll definitely be done on time, and we’re doing a bit more than we planned on.”
