CIS Roundup: Concordia beats McGill to capture 48th Shaughnessy Cup
MONTREAL — Trenton Miller threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns as the Concordia Stingers opened their CIS season on Friday with a 30-16 victory over the McGill Redmen, capturing the 48th edition of the Shaughnessy Cup.
Concordia’s defence came up huge in the victory, forcing 12 turnovers from the Redmen through five interceptions, three fumbles and four turnovers on downs.
McGill (0-1) led 7-0 after the first quarter thanks to a 130-yard interception return by rookie Vincent Dethier before the game was four minutes old. But the Stingers (1-0) took a 13-7 lead into halftime and a 16-14 advantage into the final quarter.
The Redmen tied it 16-16 in the fourth, but Miller responded with touchdown passes to Daniel Skube and Vincent Alessandrini.
