Toronto FC calls sexually explicit fan sign a ‘disgraceful act’
Toronto FC says a sexually explicit sign posted by fans at BMO Field during the team’s 1-0 loss to the Montreal Impact on Saturday is “an embarrassment” to the club and its supporters.
The Major League Soccer club issued a statement Monday on its Twitter account apologizing for the sign and asked for fan assistance in identifying those responsible.
“Toronto FC is proud to have one of the best fan bases and stadium environments in our sport,” the statement said. “Our fans show tremendous support for the club while demonstrating proper respects for our opponents and their fans.
“On Saturday night, however, a sign was displayed in the stands that was insulting to many including our opponent, the city of Montreal and their fans. It was an embarrassment to our club and our supporters and will not be tolerated.”
