Gaston, seventh tropical storm of season, forms in Atlantic
MIAMI — The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the seventh tropical storm of the season, Gaston, has developed far over the Atlantic.
Gaston is forecast to strengthen steadily Tuesday and could become a hurricane by Wednesday. However, it will remain well out to sea even by the weekend.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds are 40 mph (65 mph). It is 450 miles (725 kilometres) west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and is moving west-northwest at 18 mph (30 kph).
Meanwhile, Fiona is holding on as a tropical depression in the Atlantic.
